Roberta Ann Wick

Roberta Ann Wick of Chandler, AZ passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023 after a series of strokes and associated health complications. She was 76. Her family was at her bedside. Roberta is survived by her husband James Arthur Wick, son James Matthew Wick of Chandler AZ, daughter Melissa Ann Gresham (Doug) of Portland OR, grandsons Kyle Robert and Ryan James Gresham. Roberta is also survived by her sister Mary Jane McDowell (Jack) of Butler PA, brother Richard “Gus” Thompson (Marilyn) of Eau Claire PA, sister-in-law Cindy Thompson of Slippery Rock PA, and 13 beloved nieces and nephews and their families. Preceding Roberta in death are her parents Robert and Myrtle Thompson and brother Francis “Butch” Thompson, from West Sunbury, PA. Roberta was born on September 28, 1946 - at home - in Oak Hills, outside of Butler Pennsylvania. After the family moved to West Sunbury PA, she grew up in the family home above the family business, Thompson’s Market. She attended the last public one room school in Pennsylvania. In 1964 she graduated from Moniteau High School near West Sunbury, PA. She attended Western Pennsylvania School of Nursing, graduating in 1967; following her Mother and older sister Mary Jane, both nurses. She worked as a nurse until her son Matt was born in 1974. Roberta married Jim Wick in 1969 in West Sunbury, celebrating 53 years of marriage last year. A self-described homebody, Roberta and Jim moved several times, living in Belle West Virginia, Wilmington Delaware, Lincroft New Jersey, Germantown Tennessee, West Chester Pennsylvania, Portland Oregon, and Chandler Arizona. She was proud to make a home and new friends in each location. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, reading and cross stitching, more than happy to put family first and they loved her for it. She was a proud and loving mom, always ready with a meal and a laugh. Her daughter Melissa writes: “My mom was home She carried me and taught me to walk She was comfort and safety and warmth She was nourish and provide She was tough love and gentle love She was make me laugh and help me cry My mom didn’t just make a home, she was home” Roberta found joy in the joy of others. She loved a good story and had a wicked sense of humor. She loved children and spoiled them with kindness. As she wished, there will not be a formal funeral service and in lieu of flowers if you wish, please donate to a local charity or church of your choice. Her family thinks she would not mind if you raised a toast and told a Roberta story at your next family gathering.
