George W. "Scotty" Murray, Jr.

George W."Scotty" Murray, Jr., 75 years old of (Boydstown) Chicora, PA, died at 1:00 AM on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 after an accident at his hunting camp in McKean County, PA. He was born July 25, 1928 in Butler, Pennsylvania, the son of the late George W. Murray, Sr. and the late Hazel Ada Shrake Murray. He graduated from Butler High School in 1946. In his earlier school years, he attended Center Ave. Elementary School and also Whitmire 1 Room Schoolhouse. He retired as the Area Superintendent and Manager of Maintenance and Services from Armco Steel Butler Plant in 1990 after 43 years of service. While at Armco, he acquired the ICS Electrical Engineering degree. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Butler. He was a life member of the NRA and was a past Jr. Rifle Instructor. He was a 50 year member of Chicora #540 Argyle Lodge F & AM, where he was a past master in 1959. He also received the Gold Honor Award for his outstanding service in York Rite Masonry. He also served as secretary for the Chicora Masonic Lodge Building Association. Mr. Murray was a member of Syria Shrine where he was currently the assistant photographer. He was the current Worthy Patron of Butler Chapter #45 Order of the Eastern Star. He also was Past Patron of Chicora # 354 OES. He was a past president of the Butler Shrine Caravan. He was the current president for the Knights of Mecca of Syria Shrine and a member of the Islam Grotto. He was a devoted hunter, enjoyed boating, music, reading and photography. Surviving are his wife, Marian Graham Murray whom he married September 16, 1949; 1 Son, Kim Tyler Murray of Karns City; 3 Daughters, Mrs. Patrick (Gale) McGrady of Mechanicsburg, PA, Mrs. Jim (Gwen) Gannon of Butler and Janet Murray of Chicora; 6 Grandchildren, Ryan McGrady of Columbus, OH, Scott McGrady of Harrisburg, Kelly McGrady of Mechanicsburg, James Young of Butler, Lori Young of Butler, Jennifer Gannon of Butler; 1 Brother, Richard Tyler Murray of Butler; Number of nieces, nephews & cousins and a number of relatives in Edinburgh, Scotland. Friends will be received 2-4 and 6-9 on Friday, July 23 at the Young Funeral Home, Ltd., Butler, PA. Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 11 AM with Rev. David Panther, his pastor officiating. Eastern Star services will be held at 6:30 PM and Masonic Services will be held at 6:45 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
