Helen Brode Carlos Labbett

Helen Brode Carlos Labbett, 90, of Erie, formerly of Butler, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center in Erie, PA. She was born October 24, 1918 in Cumberland, MD, the daughter of the late Paul Brode and the late Mabel Johnson Brode. Helen was a 1939 graduate of the Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing. She completed post graduate training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL and was formerly a nurse at Aspinwall VA Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, Kiski Prep School in Saltsburg, PA, at the office of Dr. Robert Hunt in Butler, PA, and at the VA Hospital in Butler. Helen was a resident of the Butler community for over 50 years and enjoyed living in Lumar Village and New Haven Court. She especially enjoyed many activities with the Butler County Association for the Blind and was a member of the Eastern Star; a charter member of the Kittanning order of the Amaranths; National Association of Retired Federal employees, and an application was in process for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution. Helen was a devoted Christian woman who was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her witty humor and fun loving spirit and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Helen is survived by 2 daughters, Marne Boyce of Lake City, PA and Mary Fraser and son-in-law, Blair Fraser of Darnestown, MD; five grandchildren, Bridget Boyce Holmes of Columbia, MD, Meghan Boyce Riesterer of Colorado Springs, CO, Garrett Boyce of Lake City, PA (currently serving in Iraq), Stewart Fraser of Alexandria, VA, and Margaret Fraser Hunter of Lexington, KY; a brother, Robert Brode of Clayton, OH and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas P. Carlos and Bryant Labbett, her parents, her sister Jane Diehlher, son-in-law Harold "Buddy" Boyce; and 2 grandsons, Brent Boyce and Baby boy "Tad" Boyce. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 from 2PM until the time of the funeral service at 4 pm at Young Funeral Home, Ltd., 127 West Jefferson Street, Butler, PA.
