Lester "Les" Domhoff

Lester (Les) Domhoff, 82, of Butler died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice Center. Born on October 26, 1929 in Connoquenessing Township he was the son of the late Lester P. Domhoff Sr. and Leah (Burr) Domhoff. He married Helen Lucille (Frye) Domhoff, the love of his life, on February 8, 1952. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage. Les was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War as a member of the 2nd Infantry Division. He remained an active member in the Division’s Association. He hired into the inspection department of ARMCO Steel in December of 1948. He remained there, with the exception of his military service until his retirement in June of 1990. He remained active in the ARMCO Retiree’s Association. Les and his wife Lucy thrived on living an active life and were avid worldwide travelers. His favorite was taking his family members on cross country adventures. He also enjoyed waterskiing, boating, motorcycling, camping, and hunting. Les remained active on 2 bowling leagues right into the fall. A long term member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Butler, Les served on the church council and volunteered for Katie’s Kitchen. Les was a member of the William Miller Masonic Lodge #769 and was also a Shriner. Les is survived by three children, Ginger (Tim) Rowan of Mars, David Domhoff & Nicole Boyle & son Tim of Queensbury, New. York and Terrie (Ken) Venmar of Butler; Two grandchildren Justin (Jody) Rowan of Mars and Lesley (Matt) Bruce of Asheville, North Carolina; and two great-grandchildren. Jack Edward Rowan of Mars and Evelyn Lucille Bruce of Asheville, North Carolina. Two brothers Don (Florence) Domhoff of Renfrew, Jim (Marion) Domhoff of Meridian. Five sisters Mary Brewster of Renfrew; Mid Wiedenhof of Butler, Betty (Bob) Campbell of Florida; Bonnie Marburger of Renfrew; Carol (Jim) Shearer of Prospect; and a cousin Edith (Ray) Atkinson of Renfrew. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews whom he greatly loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lucy, two nieces and two brother-in-laws. Friends will be received at Young Funeral Home, Ltd., 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler on Saturday, December 17th from 6-8PM and on Sunday, December 18th from 2-4 & 6-8PM with Masonic Services at 6:45PM. Services will be held on Monday at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church at 11AM with Rev. Alden Towberman officiating. Burial in the Butler County Memorial Park with military honors.
