Ann McDowell Oesterling
January 30, 2019
Ann McDowell Oesterling, 91, passed away January 30, 2019. Born and raised in Butler, she married her high school sweetheart, Donald O. Oesterling in 1947. They first settled in Butler, then moved to the Harrisburg area, finally living in North Fort Myers, Florida. Ann moved back to the Butler area in 2014 and resided at Corcordia in Cabot until her passing. She and Donald shared a love of traveling around the country in their RV, experiencing the outdoors they loved. Ann was an avid fisherwoman until just recently when health prevented her from baiting a hook (lucky for the worms). As a registered nurse she was well known for many years as the nurse on duty at the annual Big Butler Fair. She gave freely of her time and was always up for a good game of Scrabble, bridge or dominos. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66-years, former Pennsylvania state senator, Donald O. Oesterling, her parents, James and Grace McDowell, sister, Helen Phillips, brother, James McDowell and sons Mathew John Oesterling and Peter J. Oesterling. Ann is survived by her son, Michael James Oesterling (Penny), daughter, Dawn Prebula (Gary), grandsons Eric Prebula (Julie), Michael Christopher Oesterling, and Peter J. Oesterling, Jr., granddaughter Elizabeth Owens (Phil), great-grandchildren Illyanna & Indiana Prebula and Quentin, Violet and Selina Owens, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. As per Ann’s wishes, there will be no public service. However, a remembrance and celebration of her life will be held during the annual Oesterling reunion, the second Saturday of August.
