Norman "Dutch" Frederick Rettig, Jr., 89, of Orlando, formerly of Butler, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Cornerstone Hospice Care Center, at Orlando Health. He was born February 16, 1926 in Butler, PA, the son of the late Norman Frederick Rettig, Sr. and the late Leona Elizabeth (Schnur) Rettig. Dutch was a WWII Navy veteran, a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 272 Butler Lodge F. A.M. New Castle Scottish Rite, Syria Temple, Butler Caravan #14 Luncheon Club, Butler Moose #64, New Castle Eagles #455, five time Past Commander of VFW Post 249, life member of American Legion Lyndora Post 778, Military Order of Cooties, past State VFW Commander in 1993-94, past VFW 25th District Commander, Past Butler Co. VFW Council Commander, Armco Veteran Club, Butler Elks 170, Chairman-Treasurer Butler Area Military Veterans Day Memorial Day Committee for many years, South Butler VFD, East Butler VFD, he was also a member of Post 249 Honor Guard for 45+ years. He was Butler County's Veteran of the year in 1984. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, veteran activities, visiting his children in Florida, and singing God Bless America. Surviving are his wife, Janet (Doutt) Rettig whom he married March 11, 1944; two daughters, Carol Jean (Larry E.) Fisher of Orlando, FL; Robin Lynn (Ronald Sr.) McKnight of Kissimmee, Florida; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, a brother, Richard E. Rettig of Connecticut; and a sister, Margaret (Richard) Hackett of Butler. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, two brothers and a great grandson. Friends will be received at Young Funeral Home, Ltd., 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, on Monday, January 4, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday, January 5 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Services will be held at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 West Jefferson Street, Butler, PA 16001, on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Alden Towberman officiating. Interment will follow in the Butler County Memorial Park with military honors by VFW Post 249 and Lyndora American Legion Post 778. Contributions may be made to Attention: Volunteer Services, Butler VA Healthcare, 325 New Castle Rd., Butler, PA 16001, to benefit homeless and hospitalized veterans, veteran recreation programs, canteen books and more
