Richard L. Sanders, 84, of Butler passed away Thursday at the VNA Hospice after a short illness. Born January 27, 1931 in Butler, he was the son of Chester L. Sanders and Alberta R. Kerr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany. Richard retired as a machinist from Armco after 32 years. Richard was known for lending a helping hand any chance he had. He enjoyed gardening, photography, nature, and his dog Mia. He advocated for the creation of the Butler County Vo-Tech school. Richard was a loving husband to Shirley for 64 years, and the father of Holly A. Cranmer-Gasparin (Mark) of Butler, Daniel (Mary Anne) of Bairdford, Dennis (Gwen) of Conneaut, Ohio, Heidi Germain (Chris) of Philadelphia, and Timi Miller (Hank) of Gibsonia. Richard was the brother of Norman Sanders (Donna) of Seneca, Mary Jane Williams (Richard) of Oil City, Susan Kahle (William) of Seneca, and Martha Tarr (Donald) of Oil City. He was the grandfather to 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Memorial Donations can be made to the VNA Inpatient Hospice at 115 Technology Drive, Butler, PA. At Richard's request, a private memorial service for family will be held at a later date.
