Donald Llewellyn Hall

Donald Llewellyn Hall, 66, was called to Heaven by the Lord on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at his home. Don was born in Butler Memorial Hospital, May 18, 1942, the son of the late Roy McConnell Hall and Edna Wray Hall who both lived in West Sunbury. Don graduated from the first class of Moniteau High School in 1960 and received a teaching degree from Slippery Rock State College in 1966. He married the love of his life, Doris Diana Dunkel on August 7, 1965 at Unionville Presbyterian Church. He was a substitute teacher in South Butler School District in 1966 then took a manager position in the toy department of Toy King. In August of 1968, Don went to American Hardware as an order filler and stayed with the company through TruServ retiring with 32 years of service in October of 1999. Don was highly active in Scouting as a Cub Scout Master of Pack 19 Meridian in 1975-77, Committee Chairman of Troop 12 at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church and Committee Chairman of American Hardware Explorer Post. He was a former member of Saturday Night Church Bowling League and Mama's & Papa's Bowling League. Even in retirement, he enjoyed trout fishing, the outdoors, writing poetry, puzzles and remaining a loyal Steelers fan to the end. He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on church council as a deacon and president of congregation. Don also taught 7th & 8th grade Sunday School with his wife. He was a part of the Good News Sunday School Class and a former member of the church golf league. He is survived by his wife; 2 sons, Rev. Ronald Llewellyn and Judi Hall of Galeton, PA and John DeWayne and Beth Hall of Grand Rapids, MI; 9 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nathan, Rebecca, Daniel, Joshua, Jesse, Benjamin, Emma and Ian Hall; 2 sisters, Mrs. Richard (Ann) Anderson of Webb Rd., Slippery Rock and Mrs. Robert (Mary Lou) Riffle of Ligonier, PA; 3 nieces, Wendy Vogelsand, Jackie Vaughn and Leslie Miller; 2 nephews Jake Riffle and Tim Anderson. Friends will be received from 6-8PM on Monday, September 22, 2008 at the Young Funeral Home, Ltd., 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler. Visitation will also be from 11AM until the time of the funeral service at 12noon on Tuesday, September 23rd at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., Butler with his pastor, Rev. Alden W. Towberman officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Burial Estates.
