Evalyn Lee "Lynn" McCandless Lukavich

Evalyn Lee “Lynn” McCandless Lukavich, age 70, of West Sunbury, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, August 2, 2005. She was born in Butler on March 29, 1935 to the late Lamont M. “Fat” McCandless and Eva Lucille Mangel McCandless. She graduated from Mount Aloysius Academy in 1953, attended two summers at Duquesne University, and graduated from Mt. Aloysius Junior College in 1955 with an Associate Degree in Secretarial Science. She was an active member of the St. Louis Catholic Church in West Sunbury, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild, served on the Parish Council and taught CCD. She was a well known local organist, having served as the organist at St. Louis Catholic Church for over 40 years. She was the first lay teacher at St.Mary’s in Herman from 1956- 1957, taught at the Pry Home from 1967-1971, worked with the Visiting Nurses of Slippery Rock from 1979-1981, and was a sales consultant for Olan Mills in Allison Park and Butler from 1991-1993. She was also an AVON Representative since 1981. She was active in Cursillo and was a member of, and made rosaries for, the Legion of Mary. She was also an avid bridge player and an accomplished bowler in her younger years. A well known and respected member of the community, Lynn provided child care for a number of friends and family members. She will be missed by many. She is survived by: three daughters,Stephanie Lukavich of West Sunbury, Jeanie Lukavich of Long Beach, CA Mrs.T.Scott(Cathleen Lukavich) Saylor of Slippery Rock, eight grandchildren,Morgan Lukavich, Garrett Lloyd, Gabrielle and David Michael Blandin, Blake, Mitchell, Zachary and Gavin Saylor.Seven sisters Barbara McCandless of CA Jacquelyn McCandless and her husband, Ross Hawkins of Culver City, CA, Judith Ann McCandless of CA Ms. Gretchen Amado of Pittsburgh,Karen McCandless of Houston, TX, Mrs. Russell (Mary) Buchner of Houston, TX and Patricia Jo McCandless of Palmdale, CA,one brother,David P. And Marla McCandless of Houston, TX, One Step-Sister,Mrs. Robert (Dixie Lou) Whitaker of Fairlawn, OH and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, and great great nephews also surive. Preceded in death by her husband Chester “Jiggs” Lukavich, who died April 22, 1980, one son Michael L. Lukavich, who died April 10, 1977, one sister Ellen and one brother, Kenneth. Friends will be received at the William F. Young Funeral Home, 132 Main Street, West Sunbury from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Thursday August 4, 2005 and Friday August 5, 2005. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday, August 6, 2005 at St. Louis Catholic Church in West Sunbury with Father Richard Thompson officiating.Burial will be private.In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the St. Louis Catholic Church Ladies Guild in West Sunbury.
